Canberra Accommodation Centre has partnered with the Council On The Aging ACT (COTA) to offer affordable community-style accommodation for Canberra’s over 65’s looking for a safe and comfortable place to stay.

Anything from 1 month to 1 year and beyond.

We endeavour to keep it simple by removing the annoying restrictions that come with securing accommodation.  This means:

• Easy application process.  You can choose to apply online or simply tick a box, leave your details, and we’ll contact you to arrange a face-to-face meeting so you can sit in front of and speak with an actual person.  Of course, you can call or email us to get the ball rolling too.

• Easy 2-week notification of your intention to vacate - that’s it. It doesn’t matter if you signed an agreement for 12 months and stayed for only 2 weeks. You can simply provide 2 weeks’ notice and we’ll arrange it with a smile on our faces.  Just bear in mind, we do require a minimum of 28 days total in order to comply with long-stay rules (stay 14 days then give 14 days notice).

• No extra bills.  Imagine not having to worry about utilities. We’ll stress and lose sleep over the ever-growing costs for basic services. You just pay the one occupancy fee each fortnight and it will also cover the water, electricity, gas, and even heating costs. We’re also happy for you to access our WiFi.

You may be thinking, “There’s already a lot of demand for accommodation. Why even think about seniors, nobody else seems to?”

Well, we already have a number of seniors staying with us. They’re well-liked and get on with staff. In fact, we like them so much, we figured why not formalise it and open the doors with dedicated spaces and services.  

It didn’t take much investigation to discover the lack of accommodation options out there for our seniors.  This was when we stumbled across COTA.  They are a wealth of information and offer the best advice.  They also have a big stick to make sure we continue to provide the best possible service for seniors staying with us.  Actually, COTA do scare us a little… 

This is a brand new direction for Canberra Accommodation Centre and the idea of dedicated seniors living keeps developing with ideas like accessing more services, activities, community participation, partnering with various groups, and so on. We believe this will continue to develop and improve and our seniors will be the ones enjoying the benefits.

There will always be a focus on basic but important underlying principles while developing our dedicated seniors’ accommodation such as:

• Affordability

• Security

• Friendly and welcoming staff

• Community connection

• Access to various services

This new direction will be treated as a separate arm to the existing accommodation business with a commitment to simplification.
